Nissan’s Best Midsize Truck? 2022 Nissan Frontier
Thanks to a long-overdue redesign of the Frontier, the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma will finally have a modern competitor from Nissan in the midsize truck segment. That’s right, the 2022 Nissan Frontier (known as the Navara in other markets) will be an all-new third-generation model following more than 15 years of the same truck. A fresh new design better ties it to the Titan full-size pickup and other modern Nissans. Along with the Tacoma and Colorado, other rivals will include the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline. When will the next Nissan Z come out?
The 2023 Nissan Z Production could begin In March with Sales starting in June.
Here’s a quick timeline of the Nissan Z thus far. In May 2020 the world got its first official teaser that yes, a new Nissan sportscar was coming. Jump ahead a few months to September 2020, where we saw the Z Proto revealed. Nissan said it was a near-production prototype, and it was very near production. When the official Z finally broke cover nearly a year after that – in August 2021 – it was a virtual clone to the Proto.
Now, we are about to enter March 2022 and the 400-horsepower Z still isn’t among us. Nissan has been rather shy about committing to an on-sale date, but a Nissan dealership may have forced the automaker’s hand. A recent post at the New Nissan Z forum claims to show a timeline coming from an unnamed Nissan dealership, outlining the next few months for the Z. If it’s accurate, production should start in March with sales beginning in June.
The longer answer offers a bit more detail, but not with regards to specific dates. The alleged timeline shows a pre-launch period that we’re in now. That certainly lines up with Nissan’s elaborate Super Bowl commercial prominently featuring the Z in an action-style film. Following the start of production in March comes media first drives in April, and that could line up with the New York Auto Show scheduled for April 15 – 24. A Nissan North America field meeting is listed on the timeline for May, followed by sales in June and a marketing campaign launching in August.
We know the new Z will go on sale this year. That much is certain, but with semiconductor shortages still plaguing the entire auto industry, pinning down a specific timeframe for Z production could be easier said than done. Add in the global ramifications of Russia invading Ukraine and there’s most definitely some volatility in the auto market right now. If our Z Proto first look is any indication, however, it should be a delectable performance machine that’s worth the wait.
Nissan Off Road Frontiers
Nissan finally gave the market a heavily refreshed Frontier in 2021. The 2022 midsize pickup isn’t all new, using the same powertrain as the previous model, riding on an evolution of the same chassis as before. It’s finally a looker in the cabin though, and a decent-handling rig with noteworthy power, the 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V-6 putting out 310 horses and 281 pound-feet of torque.
Starting with the entry-level S grade, this Frontier makes do with an aftermarket 2.5-inch lift kit, Calmini adjustable upper front control arms, and a dealer accessory sport bar in the bed, all dressed up in monochrome paint and retro graphics. The painted white steelies wearing Frontier Pro-4X tires are the truck’s standard spare wheel.
The Project Hardbody is the other nostalgia special, harking back to the Nissan Hardbody. This one kicks off with the Frontier’s SV grade, adding Pro-4X fender flares over a 3-inch lift and Calmini adjustable upper control arms. The Pro-4X also donated its front skid plate; the rock rails came from the dealer accessory catalog. NDA designed and milled a set of those delicious wheels then wrapped them in 33-inch BFG All-Terrains. Two 10-inch LEDs mount to the sport bar ahead of the bed-mounted spare-tire carrier. The blacked-out front-end pairs with a black hood sticker and ‘80s-style door graphics.
The Project Adventure goes its own overlanding way. Based on the hardest-core Pro-4X trim, it stands tallest with a 5-inch lift packing 34-inch BFG Mud-Terrains, and carries the most thanks to a Yakima LoadWarrior roof basket, SkyRise tent, and Yakima bed rack system. NDA laid up a custom carbon fiber snorkel for fording waterways; Kicker worked up a Bluetooth-enabled speaker system for flinging tunes from the bed. The custom wrap, an atlas of the United States, is a map of everywhere Nissan thinks this truck can go.
2022 Nissan LEAF goes on sale
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For more than a decade, Nissan has been a pioneer in mass-market electric vehicles with more than 500,000 LEAF vehicles sold globally1 and far more than five billion EV miles driven worldwide.2 Now, the company is further demonstrating that commitment to mass-market electric cars, lowering the MSRP of the all-electric 2022 LEAF to make it more accessible and provide even more value to customers than ever before.
Styling changes for 2021 include a bolder front and redesigned center stack with a big new touchscreen. The plus-size Nissan Armada SUV heeds the call of buyers looking for lots of room for passengers and cargo in an upscale cabin, with enough extra power to still haul a trailer after filling the cabin to capacity. Armada is revamped for 2021 with significant exterior styling changes, a number of interior updates, a new Midnight Edition blacked-out appearance package, a horsepower boost and additional standard safety features. It’s the first vehicle to wear Nissan’s new logo. The Armada’s grille, hood, front fenders, front bumper and headlights are all new, giving the SUV a more squared and sculpted look. A new rear bumper, LED taillights and combination lights complete the transformation.
Inside, the center stack has been redesigned with a new standard 12.3-inch touchscreen as its focal point. Wi-Fi and wireless Apple CarPlay are new standard features, and wireless smartphone charging is available. A new 7-inch driver-assist color display in the gauge cluster has higher resolution for better visibility. Included for the first time on Armada within the NissanConnect Services Convenience plan is Nissan Concierge, providing 24-hour access to a live assistant at the push of a button. Every new Armada comes with a burly V8 engine making 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 10 horsepower and 19 pound-feet over the previous model. A smooth, quick seven-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board. When properly equipped, the Armada is good for towing up to 8,500 pounds, for both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive versions. Fuel economy ratings are a wince-worthy 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined for 2WD, and 13/18/15 mpg for 4WD. Newly standard active safety features for all models include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear automatic braking and lane-keeping assist. The 2021 Armada comes in S, SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, with standard 4×2 or optional 4×4 configuration for each one. Pricing for the S model starts at $50,395 including a $1,495 destination charge.
I drove the Armada Platinum 4WD model, $69,795. In the Armada hierarchy it adds front seat ventilation, power folding third-row seats, 22-inch wheels, a rear seat entertainment system, leather-wrapped steering wheel and quilted leather upholstery to the impressively equipped base S model and the handful of niceties added to the in-between trims. The new infotainment system is a true improvement, a real keeper. Its 12.3-inch touchscreen is fantastic. Manual dials are provided for volume and tuning control, along with push buttons and another dial on the center console for other functions. Operation is intuitive. The 13-speaker Bose premium audio system, standard on the Platinum trim, is glorious. My tester had the optional ($650) second-row captain’s chairs arrangement, reducing seating capacity to seven rather than the standard eight, but greatly increasing the Armada interior’s appeal. The two seats are luxurious, separated by a big handsome and useful console, and legroom is grand. The seats fold flat and go back up easily. They also flip up entirely to simplify access to the third row, which is little-kids-only territory. Armada is aptly named. It is massive and industrial-strength, with not a dainty thing to be found on it. For all that, the ride is gentle and peaceful. From the driver’s perspective, there’s no mistaking Armada for something less huge. It goes through curves leisurely and feels buoyant on the freeway.

All-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder
- Room for up to eight passengers, a first on Pathfinder
- Room for up to three car seats in the 2nd row, and two in the 3rd – a first on Pathfinder
- Available captain’s chairs, a first on Pathfinder – with a no-tools-needed removable console, allowing items up to 7 inches wide to pass between the seats
- Easier entry/exit to and from the 3rd row with Nissan’s EZ FLEX® one-touch seating, which now pitches the seat forward to provide a wide opening from driver or passenger side – even with a car seat attached
- Two additional inches of front seat legroom – now best-in-class 44.3 inches
- Nearly five additional inches of 3rd row hip room – now 46.7 inches
- A new, easy-to-clean luggage box with a self-supporting hinge lid that offers 54.1 liters of storage space – up from 33.3 liters on the previous model
- With 3rd row seats upright, the 4-foot wide cargo area easily fits four golf bags, a 120-quart cooler, or six TSA-sized carry-on suitcases
- With 2nd- and 3rd-row seats folded, the 4-foot wide cargo area allows users to slide in 4-foot wide sheets of plywood or like-sized items
The 2022 Pathfinder handles small items well, too. Thanks to a small, ergonomic electric shifter, the center console now offers two storage areas – a traditional console and the new “bridge” pass-through area below it, which adds 13.4 liters of storage. The open pass-through area can conveniently accommodate items like a purse, a toolbox or a full-size tablet, while the traditional console area features space for smaller items. All told, the console area now offers 19.5 liters of storage – nearly three times as much as the previous model.
A new storage shelf sits above the glove compartment, perfect for phones, sunglasses, or like-sized items, and the glovebox features a strap to securely store the owner’s manual while offering additional storage space. Pathfinder also now features 16 beverage holders. “Whether it’s loading up at the hardware store, packing up for a family day trip to the trailhead or simply picking up the kids and their friends after practice, the all-new 2022 Pathfinder makes life less complicated and more adventurous,” added Haslam.
