Some Nissan owners can now start their vehicles using Alexa voice commands.

Nissan has announced that it has become the first automotive manufacturer to support “name-free invocation,” making it easier for vehicle owners to access car functionality via Alexa-enabled devices. Nissan customers can now ask Alexa to start, lock, and unlock the vehicles using simple requests like “Alexa, start my car.” Odds are many Nissan owners already have an Amazon Alexa device in their homes as it’s one of the most popular smart speakers out there.

Nissan brags that it is the first automaker to work with Amazon on new features to leverage the Alexa Connected Vehicle Skills API. Leveraging that API makes it easier for customers to control vehicle functions via Alexa. One of the best bits about the new Nissan announcement is that you don’t need a brand-new Nissan vehicle for the Alexa voice commands to work.

Nissan says that vehicles equipped with NissanConnect Services support the Alexa-enabled commands. A NissanConnect Services skill update is automatically available right now. At launch, that skill includes the ability to start, lock, and unlock vehicles. Homes that have multiple Nissan vehicles can also personalize the name of each of the vehicles and use specific commands to control which vehicle is started, locked, or unlocked.

For instance, customers can say things like “Alexa, lock David’s car,” or “Alexa, start my Rogue.” There is no indication that there is a limit on the number of vehicles that can be named to work with the Alexa skill. As for compatible vehicles, Nissan says owners with vehicles equipped and enrolled in NissanConnect services can use the Alexa skill today.

Compatible vehicles include:

2016 and newer Altima
2018 and newer Armada
2017 and newer GT-R
2016 and newer Maxima
2017.5 and newer Murano
2017 and newer Pathfinder
2016 and newer Rogue
2017 and newer Rogue Sport
2017 and newer TITAN
2016 and newer TITAN XD
2016 and newer Sentra (excluding 2019 and 2020)

The Nissan Rogue continues to dominate the most popular segment in Canada with a notable accolade for its 2021 model. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada awarded the well-equipped SUV with the title of “Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021.”

A panel comprised of 100 automotive journalists cast its vote to honor the Rogue after putting the SUV through a series of tests and evaluations. As part of the judging criteria, the auto journalists examined the Rogue’s safety systems, convenience features, modern tech, and performance.

“We are honoured to accept this award from AJAC,” said Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “The all-new Nissan Rogue rose above the pack in a popular segment where the competition is fierce. This new generation of the Rogue meets consumers’ needs with its bold all-new design, upscale interior, exceptional driving dynamics, and an array of cutting-edge safety technologies fitted as standard.”
Since 2012, the Rogue has been the go-to choice for drivers in Canada, establishing it as the brand’s best-selling vehicle. With the win of Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada in 2021, the 2021 Nissan Rogue can now compete for the “2021 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year” award, which will be revealed next month.

What’s new for 2021
The Nissan Rogue is all-new for 2021. It features a revamped design, advanced tech for safety and connectivity, and a new powertrain. Under the hood of the 2021 Rogue pumps a more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The Nissan Safety Shield 360, which the automaker is making standard across many vehicles in its lineup, equips the 2021 Rogue with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist technologies. Under proper conditions, the systems warn you of dangers, engage the brakes to help you minimize or avoid a collision, keep you moving safely in your lane, and manipulate the intensity of your headlights.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue’s base price of $25,650 is high for the compact SUV class. There are three higher trim levels that retail for $27,340, $32,000, and $35,430. All of those figures are for front-wheel-drive models; all-wheel-drive variants cost an additional $1,400.  Call or stop by Greenville Nissan today for more information.

Here comes a new truck and a new SUV from Nissan, as the they continue to work and turn its fortunes around…

Nissan is in full swing with numerous new vehicles on their way, and we’ll get to see two new vehicles on Feb. 4.  The 2022 Nissan Frontier and Pathfinder. Nissan launched on Tuesday a website dedicated to the two vehicles with a single teaser and a countdown to their upcoming reveal.

The Frontier is the most notable debut as the truck is seriously, seriously old. As in, it last got a facelift in 2010. Nissan did drop a new powertrain in the pickup last year, but a total redesign is nigh. This next-generation Frontier will also receive the updated powertrain, a 3.8-liter V6 with 310 horsepower. A new nine-speed automatic shuffles power to the rear wheels. Our own Craig Cole said it might be his favorite powertrain within the midsize pickup segment, and hopefully, the truck as a whole will deliver.

As for the 2022 Pathfinder, the SUV is far more of a mystery with Nissan keeping quiet about what to expect from the full-size vehicle. From the teaser, we can sort of see a similar LED signature on the headlights to the recently updated Nissan Armada. Details on the powertrain or any sort of electrification remain unclear, but we won’t have to wait much longer to learn all about it.

Nissan doesn’t plan to take its foot off the gas after the new pickup and SUV. There’s a new Z sport car coming and the electric Ariya, too. Expect a number of new vehicles to launch through 2023 as Nissan embarks on a massive turnaround strategy here in the US.

If you have a less than ideal credit score, you might be concerned about finding a car loan with favorable terms. Getting a car loan with bad credit can be a frustrating endeavor. Some lenders may only consider you for subprime auto loans, which often come with less favorable terms and higher monthly payments.

Don’t give up hope. You are not alone and you do have healthy options. Even if your credit score needs improvement, you can still find a car loan that doesn’t break your monthly budget. And making consistent payments towards an auto loan is an excellent way to repair your credit.

Here at Greenville Nissan, our goal is to work with you if you have credit challenges. We take the pressure and hassle of getting financed out of the car shopping process.

Here are some tips you may consider when shopping for a car with bad credit:

Know your credit score. Taking action to repair your credit score before you begin shopping can help you find a more favorable position with some lenders.

Research. It is very important to prepare as much as possible so you’re not caught off guard when the time comes to negotiate.

Research should include key terms, like Annual Percentage Rate (APR), which refers to a loan’s yearly interest rate. If you’re buying used, it also helps to know the Kelley Blue Book value of your preferred car.

Pre-qualify with banks and lenders. Even if you don’t think you can get a loan, go to your bank, go to your credit union first. One of your most powerful negotiating tools could be pre-qualifying for a loan from a bank or a credit union.

Terms Final. Make sure the terms of your loan are final. If you finance through a dealer, always make sure the terms are final before you sign. If you don’t, you may face higher monthly payments or increased down payment in the future.

Stay clear of subprime lenders. Subprime car loans might come with higher interest rates and are not likely to help you improve your credit score. Many subprime loans also use your vehicle as collateral. So if you fail to make payments, you risk losing your car altogether.

Think loan terms NOT monthly payments. Look for the most favorable terms, usually the lowest APR over the shortest period of time. That way, you’ll have more manageable monthly payments with reasonable interest rates.

Lower monthly payments may seem good on paper and are used to bait in buyers. In reality, they can lead to you paying substantially more for your car over the term of the loan. Because car loans for bad credit can come with higher APRs (Annual Percentage Interest Rates), you may end up paying a lot more than the car’s full value in the end.

Ultimately, if you are working with bad credit, it can be tougher to find the right lender/loan. The good news is that research, preparation, and negotiation can help you get approved at a much lower interest rate than expected. Find the loan that’s right for your situation. Then pay it off to improve your credit score and potentially refinance if you find better terms.

Have you noticed your car not running like it used to? Are you ready to upgrade to a shiny new one? Trading in is a great way to save money on your new upgraded vehicle. Trading in a vehicle is a very easy and straightforward process and can be a lot simpler than selling privately. Trading in your old car is also a great way to lower the monthly payments on your new car.

Whether trading in your car for a new car or even a used car, getting the most money back is very important and to do this, attention to details matters. Getting a fair price for your trade starts with one easy step prior to even coming into the dealership. That first step is, “Get your car prepped and ready to trade”.

Getting Ready to Trade Your Used Car for a New Car

Here are a few things you can do to ensure you get the most out of your trade-in before you go to sell your car:

  1. Clean the car, inside and out. Imagine what you would think if you went to purchase a car and it was covered in dirt and trash. What would you perceive as the value of that car? What would your idea of a fair price be for a car that was not clean? It’s not a bad idea to have your car detailed. Making a good impression gives the best chances at the best offer.
  2. Fix small issues yourself. This goes along with the thought process from above. You want to give a great first impression and to do so, be sure to check all of the car’s lights. This includes dome lights, and tail lights and replacing them if needed. It’s always a good idea to top off all fluid levels, such as coolant, washer fluid, and brake fluid. If your car needs more serious work, leave that for the dealer. Any major issues will lower the value of the trade-in, but the dealer can perform the repairs for less than it would cost you.
  3. Gather all important documents. Dealers can pull a vehicle’s history report but you will need to have a few other documents ready for the trade-in. This will include the title, registration and any service records you may have. A well-serviced vehicle will bring more value and having the documents to show that you have serviced the vehicle regularly will definitely help.
  4. Grab any extras. Do you have an extra set of keys? Does your navigation system have a DVD or SD card associated with it? Bring those along with you. In some cases, you can not get credit for accessories that are not complete.
  5. Conduct your own inspection. Are there any dents or scratches that can be worked out with a little elbow grease? Take a test drive, and pay close attention to anything that may be not right. Note them, whether electrical or even the need for new tires.
  6. Determine your car’s estimated value. Do this after you have inspected your vehicle. This will give you a good idea of what to expect realistically. You can use sites like Kelly Blue Book to determine this. This will give you a great starting point for negotiations.

At Greenville Nissan, we are always looking to give top dollar for trade-ins toward any of our new or used vehicles. We pride ourselves on making customers happy and making great deals. Our customers know that they can rely on us here at Greenville Nissan and they can always “Expect Miracles”.
Customers shaking hands with young car salesman

Trading in your old car is a great way to boost your financing and put yourself on the fast track toward a new set of wheels. But it also involves more than just handing over the keys. Use the following tips for trading in your used car to get the most out of your deal.

How to Trade in Your Used Car

Stage your car
Wash and wax the outside of your car, and give the interior a thorough cleaning. A sharp looking vehicle will give the impression that you’ve taken good care of it and can only help your negotiating power.

Bring your receipts
If you kept any receipts from services and repairs, it doesn’t hurt to bring them with you. A paper trail that proves you looked after the car may help your case.

Do your research
Have a good idea of how much your car is worth before bringing it in. Use our Value Your Trade Tool, and check out local auction sales and ads.

Look for trade-in specials
It’s not uncommon for dealerships to run trade-in specials and promotions — and we’re no different. Check online specials before you come in for a visit, or ask upon arrival to see what kind of deals we have.
